EXT. SHORE OF LAGUNA GLORIA - ALL MAGIC HOUR In ultra slow motion eyes gaze out over the water, framed in exquisite symmetry; a breeze articulates the shadows on a YOUNG WOMAN’s face; she is elegant and affluent. The YOUNG WOMAN sits on a stone bench, light filtering through the trees. Next to her a silver tray presents expensive chocolates, which she is too preoccupied, or too sad to enjoy. Hearing something, she turns suddenly.
EXT. ENTRANCE TO DRISCOLL VILLA A MAN arrives on his hired motorcycle. What appears to be blood has stained his torn shirt.
EXT. REAR FOOT PATH TO THE VILLA Walking back towards the hotel, the YOUNG WOMAN seems refined, composed, and graceful, though hesitant. In slow motion she floats with aching beauty, fighting against her own sense of helplessness.
EXT. REAR PATIO OF DRISCOLL VILLA Ascending towards the hotel, she just catches the MAN in the distance as he steps out in a fresh shirt, suit, and tie. An attractive MALE PATRON of the hotel ogles her as she passes, but she doesn’t notice him.
BELOW THE FOUNTAIN Drawing nearer she sees the MAN’s face is badly bruised, a small butterfly bandage straining to cover the gash over his eye. His body stiffens as he feels her approaching, and looking out towards the water, willfully ignoring her, his eyes narrow in shame, resentment, and false pride. THE COLORADO OVERLOOK In a beautifully secluded recess the MAN seeks solitude, though apparently self assured that she will pursue him and leave herself vulnerable to his rejection. Quietly she approaches him and utters his name in a small bid for truce. Seizing the opportunity he brushes past her without speaking. UNDER THE PERGOLA He takes a seat on one of the stone benches. Persistent, and unwilling to give up, she takes a stand behind him and sets her hand on his shoulder; then drawing away, almost as if he were too cold to touch, she wraps her arms around herself, hoping to trap what little warmth is left inside.
EXT. REAR FOOT PATH OF THE VILLA The YOUNG WOMAN strides strong, hurt, defiantly back towards her spot near the water.
EXT. UNDER THE PERGOLA Next to the MAN a vine coils uselessly around one of the stone columns. No leaves hang from it. It is now dead.
